Admission to Primary School (grades K-6)
There are two programs available in the Primary school, the English Stream and the Bilingual Stream. Please note that students need to be proficient in the Icelandic language to enter the Bilingual Stream.
The English Stream at the International School of Iceland is intended for children whose families are temporarily located in Iceland. This includes foreign-service dependents, families who are sent to Iceland by a business for a contracted period of time, visiting scholars, etc.
The Bilingual Stream is intended for Icelandic or bilingual (Icelandic and another language) students who make Iceland their home. Instruction takes place in Icelandic and English.
Admission to the Middle School Program (grades 7-10)
The International School of Iceland is pursuing authorization as an IB World School, with the goal of offering the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) to students in grades seven to ten. In joining the International Baccalaureate program, ISI will connect with and share common goals with IB teachers and coordinators who develop and promote the IB’s curricula in almost 5,000 schools globally, in over 150 countries around the world (www.ibo.org).
We are currently aligning our school programming in grades 7-10 to follow the International Baccalaureate® (IB) MYP curriculum. Teachers are receiving professional development, and the IB committee works regularly with an IB consultant to ensure the implementation of the program. We are aiming to be authorized as an IB World School in 2023.

The International School will accept students throughout the academic year as long as an appropriate place is available. Each application is considered on its individual merit. Our objective is to ascertain that the prospective student would benefit from the school. Kindergarten students should be five years of age in the year of entry.
