Program Information & Forms

Please read about the two programs available at our school, the English Stream and the Bilingual Stream, to find the one that is best for your student. Below, you will also find the application forms for the International School of Iceland. Please note that there are separate application forms for students who will be in the Bilingual program and for those who will be in the English-only program.

The International School will accept students throughout the academic year as long as an appropriate place is available. Each application is considered on its individual merit. Our objective is to ascertain that the prospective student would benefit from the school. Kindergarten students should be five years of age in the year of entry.

Admission to the English Stream (Grades K-10)

The English Stream at the International School of Iceland is intended for children whose families are temporarily located in Iceland. This includes foreign-service dependents, families who are sent to Iceland by a business for a contracted period of time, visiting scholars, etc.

While we do accept non-English speaking children into our English stream, we reserve the right to charge a fee for additional English lessons. The fee will be determined by the number of classes necessary to bring the child to fluency. Please take a look at our Academic Program section for more information about specific subject areas.

Banking information for tuition and fee payment is located here, on the Contact Us page.

Admission to the Bilingual Stream (Grades K-10)

The Bilingual Stream is intended for Icelandic or bilingual (Icelandic and another language) students who make Iceland their home. Instruction takes place in Icelandic and English.

Please note that only students proficient in Icelandic are admitted into the bilingual program. Students may be asked to take an entrance exam to determine language proficiency. Specific terms and information about the Bilingual Stream can be found here.

We reserve the right to charge a fee for additional Icelandic lessons. The fee will be determined by the number of classes necessary to bring the child to fluency.

Important Information Regarding Students with Special Needs

Children who have special needs will be considered for admission on an individual basis, and will be admitted if it is determined that our program is appropriate for the child. Parents of students with special educational needs should indicate the nature of the need on the application form and enclose all assessments, Individual Educational Programs and other documentation that will help the decision process.

The International School currently cannot provide psychological services, occupational or speech therapy or assistance with severe cases of ADD/ADHD.  Parents of children with physical disabilities should contact the school regarding the nature of the disability, as accommodation may be possible.

Failure to accurately or completely disclose information may result in the revocation of acceptance.
