Leading the way to our new school building!
Our new building is fully renovated, with lots of fun and learning spaces for everyone!
Our 10th grade students are having some fun before the holidays!
Our students loved seeing Madrid together!
We are so proud to be a part of these two prestigious organizations.
STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking.

ISI Says Goodbye to the School Year
June 2018
The end of the year is a time for students to explore the local environment and enjoy the spring weather (if there is any sunshine to enjoy!). ISI students have been to the National Stadium, gone caving and explored local museums recently. A Grade 4 class went on a field trip to the publishing company Forlagið. Students went on a hunt among all the books to find the most and least attractive covers before each received a copy of the newly published book, Ofurhejturvíddin.
And to our students who are graduating, we have a little message:
To our students,
We're glad we were your teachers;
We've come to love you so.
We can't believe the end is here.
We hate to see you go!
Remember all the fun we had
in all the things we did,
But most of all remember...
You're a very special kid!
Thanks to all our students, staff, our PTA, and the rest of the ISI Family for another wonderful school year!

ISI Expands to New School Building!
August 22, 2017 (Updated November 17)
We are happy to announce that part of the school has moved to a historical landmark in Garðabær. The house, called Þórsmörk, is located on the perimeter of the school grounds.
Þórsmörk offers not only more teaching space but large outdoor play areas and expansion possibilities for the future.
Students in grades K-3 officially moved into Þórsmörk on Friday, November 17, after a special ribbon cutting ceremony and a small celebration in their new learning spaces.

Making New Friends at Bolton St. Catherine's Academy
November 21, 2017
On Tuesday, November 21, the students Grade 4, Skógafoss class, used Skype to meet with two classes from Bolton St. Catherine‘s Academy (BSCA) in the UK. The students at BSCA are currently learning all about volcanoes as a part of their “Extreme Earth” themed project, so naturally they turned to a school in Iceland for some firsthand information.
Our students are currently doing a book study on Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne, which is set in Iceland. They are also studying the Active Planet theme in IPC, which covers volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis, as well as studying the science of volcanoes in their STEAM lessons, so they were more than happy to link up with BSCA and share their research and knowledge. Skógafoss class also taught the students how to say “eldfjall” which is the Icelandic word for volcano.
Some of the questions our students were asked included:
-
"What’s the weather like in Iceland and is it very cold?"
-
"Has anyone seen a geysir and does it smell?"
-
"How many active volcanoes are there in Iceland, and which is the most active?"
-
"Have you ever experienced an earthquake, and if so, what did it feel like?"
We hope to link up again soon, and sing a song about volcanoes together!

Thank you to the students and staff at BSCA for allowing us to use their photos!
